   :: Development

Excerpted from the China Career Guide

China is an emerging market that has captured the imagination of many around the world. As a developing nation, China receives assistance from foreign governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) throughout the world. All are trying to determine how best to offer help to China’s 1.3 billion people and, as funds for various projects flow to China, there are many related work opportunities in the development field.

Development jobs come in many different shapes. Some jobs are associated with the largest NGOs in the world (e.g., the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank both have significant operations in China). These groups have historically placed greater emphasis on infrastructure projects. For example, the World Bank has been associated with the construction of cement plants and the Asian Development Bank has been known for its highway building.
