Excerpted from the Denmark Career Guide
Denmark is one of the most expensive
places for expatriates to live. In the most recent edition of a cost
of living survey prepared by investment bank UBS, Copenhagen was
found, on average, to have the second highest prices for expatriates
worldwide. The cost of living in Copenhagen, according to the
survey, is nearly 30 percent higher than in New York, the most
expensive city in North America. Weakness in the US and Canadian
dollars against the Euro has made Denmark even more expensive for
expatriates from North America. However, even expatriates from the
Euro Zone will find Denmark expensive.
Fortunately, salaries in Denmark are
commensurate with the high cost of living. According to the UBS
survey, average gross wages in Copenhagen are about 41 percent
higher than in New York. Due to Denmark’s high tax rates, however,
average net wages are only 14 percent higher than New York.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Denmark guide.
