Corporate
finance growth is slow, while tax services are growing at a faster
pace. Much of the work relating to accounting and bookkeeping is
being outsourced to other countries, such as Morocco, Tunisia and
countries in Eastern Europe. Moving these services abroad reduces
production costs and allows for greater flexibility. However, changes in
accounting regulations, including the "loi sur la securite
financiere" (LSF law), have positively impacted the bottom lines
of many local accounting firms.
In the banking industry, there have been
some job cuts due to bank mergers and acquisitions such as the
recent merger between French banks Credit Agricole and Credit
Lyonnais. However, jobs are also being created from this merger activity,
particularly when a foreign bank takes a larger stake in the
country. One example of this is HSBC, which acquired the French bank
CCF in 2000.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
