German is
the official language in Germany, with English being the second most
common language. Although business can be conducted in English, most
companies will prefer that applicants speak at least some German.
Even some executives who are comfortable speaking English may resent
having to speak a language other than their native tongue. Attempts
at speaking German are always appreciated.
The best way
that an applicant can insure doing well in an interview is to become
familiar with the company ahead of time. This is also a good way to
develop questions and match one’s skills to the specific job.
Interviews are generally conducted very
formally and efficiently. Germans like to stick to a strict
timetable, and, therefore, being on time is extremely important.
Applicants should plan ahead to have extra time in case of traffic
jams, trains and other delays. Being late for an interview is
considered very rude. Most Germans also like to stick to a strict
protocol and demand manners and respect.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
