The German
Association for Information Technology, Telecom & New Media (Bitkom)
expects both sales and employment growth for IT and
telecommunications companies in the future. "(The sector) is
becoming the draught horse for the whole German economy," Bitkom
President Willi Berchtold told reporters. Three quarters of the
firms surveyed by Bitkom saw revenue increasing, with two-thirds forecasting higher profits. Company restructuring has now
ended, Berchtold said.
The trade group, whose members include
business software maker SAP AG (SAP) and Deutsche Telekom AG (DT),
estimates that some 10,000 new jobs will be created in Germany's
information technology sector. "Nearly half the firms polled said
they planned to create new jobs, with only one in eight looking to
trim staff. Smaller and medium-sized firms in particular are keen to
hire new workers."
