Excerpted from the Italy Career Guide

Working in business in Italy encompasses a wide variety of industries, fields and expertise. In general, Italy has a comparative advantage in textiles and clothing, food, beverages, tobacco, motor vehicles, chemical and engineering products. However, the majority of businesses in Italy are family-owned, small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with very small staffs.

These smaller businesses present good opportunities for women to move into management roles. The face of Italian business is increasingly female, a new Production Activities Ministry report recently revealed. According to the account, women are in the driving seat of 1,174,543 Italian firms, 23.5 percent of the total of 4,995,738 enterprises that operate in Italy. Half of businesses run by women fall in the retail and agricultural sectors and most are small enterprises.

This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Italy guide.
