Excerpted from the Japan Career Guide
Recent changes in the Japanese government's opinion of hiring foreign medical caregivers offer exciting opportunities for those who wish to work in Japan. Currently, any doctor or nurse who wishes to work in Japan must first acquire a Japanese medical license. Once that is completed, their occupational time is limited to either six years as a doctor or four years as a nurse. However, due to many complaints of "a closed labor market," the government plans to relax or perhaps drop any and all restrictions on the length of stay for foreign doctors and nurses licensed to practice in Japan.
This shift in attitude is perhaps in response to the growing demand for medical caregivers in Japan, especially in terms of caring for the elderly. Many major medical affiliates in Japan agree that the need for foreign caregivers will significantly increase over the next 10 years as the rapid aging of Japanese society increases and the size of the younger population decreases.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Japan guide.
