   :: Job Resources

Excerpted from the South Africa Career Guide

South Africa continues to experience a shortage of specific skills and welcomes expatriate workers. However, South Africa has an Affirmative Action policy in place, which ensures that South Africans from historically disadvantaged backgrounds are given preference by prospective employers. The expatriate should, therefore, establish whether his/her skills are needed in South Africa by approaching executive search firms and personnel recruiters before taking any further steps. Companies in many sectors hire employees through staffing agencies and executive recruiters.

South African online job sites are an increasingly effective way to find both temporary and permanent employment in all locations around the country. Most online job sites are free of charge for the jobseeker and offer job listings in a broad range of fields, industries and professions. The jobseeker has the opportunity to add his/her résumé/CV to the databases and search listings for appropriate positions. Many websites provide a Job Alert facility whereby possible job matches are sent to the jobseeker's email address or to a personally registered account that can be accessed online.

CareerJunction

CareerJunction is one of South Africa s most popular online recruitment portals. To fully utilize the site, the jobseeker needs to create a 'Resume4Life' in the prescribed format online. The jobseeker can search and apply for available positions by job date, company sector, location, job type and work level; search for information on a specific company including available jobs; create daily/weekly e-mail alerts for all new jobs according to his/her own criteria; and subscribe to a monthly newsletter with news, advice and job listings. Companies and recruitment agencies make use of various tools to identify candidates online.
