Since the Swiss economy is service oriented (with about 68.9 percent of the total population involved in service jobs) professionals in the sales and marketing fields are widespread and play important roles in the business of almost all Swiss companies. Overall, employment trends in sales and marketing are considered stable since the need to sell, advertise, analyze markets and promote products is constant.
Gross advertising spending in Switzerland increased by 1.2 percent year-on-year to 3,728 billion Swiss francs (3.15 billion USD/2.42 billion euro) according to Swiss market research company Media Focus. Newspaper advertising still tops the ad market, but television advertising is catching up. Internet advertising is experiencing the highest growth of any single category (+51 percent versus nine percent for the next fastest growing category- television advertising).
