Research conducted by The Royal Academy of Engineering estimates that there are at least two million highly skilled people employed in engineering or technological businesses across various sectors including construction, medicine and bio-engineering, music and entertainment. The engineering profession in the United Kingdom is represented by 35 institutions with approximately 600,000 members; however, about 160,000 are registered engineers working in the United Kingdom.
Recruitment professionals report some recent and future demand for engineering staff. The Engineering Employers Website reports that 1,154 companies that responded to a recent survey reported positive job growth during the prior three months. Two percent reported that they added staff in the past three months while half reported staff levels unchanged. Lower output and orders in some sectors had contributed to a slowdown in hiring. These slow sectors included companies involved in metals and automotive production, especially in the Northwest and Midlands regions.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete United Kingdom guide.
